How to get your song into TikTok Sounds as an independent artist
A practical route from distributor delivery or SoundOn to an official TikTok sound, Artist Account, Music Tab, and release checks.

The short answer
Send the finished recording to TikTok through a music distributor that supports the platform, or distribute it through TikTok's SoundOn. SoundOn turns part of the release into an official 15–60 second sound and recommends delivering four weeks early. Once the catalog entry is live, claim the matching Artist Account and Music Tab; TikTok for Artists then helps you inspect song and post performance, but it is not the delivery route.
Choose one delivery route
TikTok's own guidance for independent artists says that many music distributors deliver to TikTok. Start with the distributor handling the release and confirm that TikTok or ByteDance delivery is selected. This is catalog delivery: the distributor sends the recording and metadata so TikTok can make it available as an official sound. Uploading a video is a separate publishing action, and Artifex Studio does neither job for you.
SoundOn is the first-party alternative. Its help center says it distributes to TikTok and CapCut as in-house partners, as well as other streaming services. Choose either your existing distributor or SoundOn for TikTok delivery. SoundOn says artists using it only for ByteDance services should tell the other distributor not to deliver there, and should keep matching metadata. That avoids competing deliveries for the same recording.
- Ask your distributor whether TikTok delivery is included and how it labels the destination.
- When moving a release, keep the ISRC, UPC, artist name, title, and songwriter metadata unchanged.
- Do not send the same recording to TikTok through two distributors at once.
Deliver the master, then choose the sound window
SoundOn requires the full song rather than a partial upload. During its release flow, the artist can choose or edit the TikTok Clip that will be professionally distributed to TikTok. SoundOn defines official sounds as 15–60 second audio clips and recommends a melodically or lyrically expressive section. The number is a platform specification, not a promise that one window will attract more uses than another.
Pick a window that makes sense without a long setup: a complete lyric thought, a transition, or a musical change that gives another creator room to respond. Artifex analysis recommends comparing two or three candidate windows against the same test: does the excerpt establish an idea, change, and resolve within its available time? Keep the released master as the source, not a separately edited file with different metadata.
Leave review time. SoundOn currently recommends uploading four weeks before release so a rejected submission can be corrected and resubmitted. It also says music that uses beats or loops needs the appropriate licenses or proof that the material is royalty-free. Treat delivery approval as a prerequisite, not a release-day errand.
Claim the artist layer after delivery
Once the music appears in TikTok's library, apply for an Artist Account from TikTok Studio through Artist Hub or TikTok for Artists. TikTok's current application guide tells artists to search for their artist profile in the library, claim it, and submit screenshots from the streaming or distribution platform they control. TikTok says feedback can take up to 30 days, and the Music Tab and Artist Tag appear after approval.
TikTok for Artists sits on top of that certified account. TikTok describes daily-updated dashboards for song performance, post performance, and follower insights. Artifex analysis: use those tools to verify that the correct song is attached and to learn which approved sound window people use; do not treat the dashboard as a substitute for distributor delivery or as evidence that a song will spread.
Check the catalog before you publish the campaign
On or before release day, search TikTok's sound library using the exact artist and track names. Open the sound entry, confirm the recording and artwork belong to the right release, and check the artist profile association. If it is missing or wrong, start with the distributor's delivery status and identifiers. TikTok for Artists also provides support for questions about accounts, songs, and campaigns once access is available.
If you move the release to another distributor, preserve the original ISRC. SoundOn says an ISRC follows a recording for its lifetime and should remain the same when distributors change. Also check the account type before diagnosing a missing sound: TikTok says Business Accounts do not have access to the general music library and instead use the Commercial Music Library. A catalog problem and an account-access restriction need different fixes.
- Missing everywhere: ask the distributor whether TikTok accepted the delivery.
- Wrong artist page: send the distributor the exact TikTok artist profile and release identifiers.
- Visible to others but not your account: check whether the account is a Business Account.
- Changing distributors: retain the ISRC and matching release metadata.

Build the first TikTok cutFrequently asked
Questions, answered.
- Can I upload a song directly to TikTok without a distributor?
- TikTok's first-party route is SoundOn, its music distribution platform. You can also use a separate distributor that delivers to TikTok. Choose one delivery route for the recording rather than sending duplicate deliveries.
- How long should the official TikTok sound be?
- SoundOn says official TikTok sounds are 15–60 second clips. Choose a self-contained musical or lyrical moment; using the permitted length does not mean people will use it.
- Does TikTok for Artists put my song into the sound library?
- No. Distributor or SoundOn delivery puts the recording into the catalog. TikTok for Artists is the certified-account layer for song, post, and follower insights after the artist profile is claimed.
