YouTube AI disclosure for music: what creators should check before upload
A musician-focused explanation of YouTube altered or synthetic disclosure rules, including AI-created music and realistic scenes.

The short answer
YouTube requires creators to disclose certain altered or synthetic content, including when AI creates music that is the main focus of the video. It also names realistic people, real events, real places, and realistic scenes that did not occur. Production help like outlines, scripts, thumbnails, and beauty filters can be exempt.
The music-specific line
YouTube Help says disclosure is required when altered or synthetic content creates music that is the main focus of the video. That matters for AI-music creators because the disclosure question is not limited to faces or fake news scenes. A music video can trigger the rule through the audio itself.
YouTube also names cases where AI makes a real person appear to say or do something, alters real events or places, or creates a realistic scene that did not occur. Labels can appear in the expanded description, or in the player for sensitive realistic content.
What YouTube says is exempt
The same Help page says disclosure is not required for clearly unrealistic or animated content, and it lists production assistance such as outlines, scripts, thumbnails, color correction, and beauty filters as exempt examples. Those exemptions still require judgment. A stylized lyric video is different from a realistic synthetic performance by a person.
A pre-upload check
Ask four questions before export. Is the music itself AI-created and the main focus? Does the video make a real person appear to do or say something? Does it alter a real event or place? Does it create a realistic scene that did not occur? If yes, review YouTube disclosure before upload.
Keep the record with the asset
YouTube says it may apply labels itself, including from C2PA metadata, and that non-disclosure can lead to penalties. A provenance record does not decide the label for you, but it keeps the facts close: model, prompt, source material, settings, and whether the scene is realistic or fictional.

Upload decisions start in production
Make the disclosure answer easy before export.
Generate visuals in Studio with provenance attached, review whether the asset depicts realistic people, places, events, or AI-created music, and export with a clean record.
