EU AI Act Article 50: what musicians should know about AI labels
A practical, non-legal guide to AI transparency duties, platform labels, and provenance records for musicians using generated visuals.

The short answer
Article 50 transparency obligations under the EU AI Act apply from 2 August 2026. For musicians, the practical takeaway is to keep provenance records and label realistic AI-generated or manipulated material when required. This article is general editorial information, not legal advice; rights and compliance questions should be reviewed with qualified counsel.
What changed
The European Commission says Article 50 transparency obligations apply from 2 August 2026. It also says the Code of Practice on transparency of AI-generated content was finalized on 10 June 2026 as a voluntary tool, while the Article 50 duties themselves are legal obligations. Deployers of deepfakes must label them.
For musicians, the immediate operating question is simple: can you explain what was generated, what was edited, what came from you, and what a platform or audience might reasonably need to know?
Platforms already ask related questions
YouTube requires disclosure for certain altered or synthetic content, including realistic scenes that did not occur and AI-created music that is the main focus of the video. TikTok says creators have been required to label realistic AIGC and that it can auto-label content carrying C2PA Content Credentials from other platforms.
These platform rules are not identical to EU law, but they point toward the same habit: keep a record before the release is live.
A practical checklist
Keep the model name, prompt, settings, source images or clips, whether a real person is depicted, who approved the use, and what was changed after generation. Store final exports separately from drafts. If the asset includes a realistic person, a real event, a real place, or synthetic audio that could affect audience understanding, review disclosure before upload.
Where Studio helps
Studio records model, quality, cost, prompt, generation settings, and source relationships for new image and video assets. Assets made before 13 October 2026 have only model and cost. That record does not make a legal decision for you, but it makes the decision less dependent on memory.

Disclosure needs records
Keep the proof before a platform asks for it.
Use Studio to generate release assets with model, prompt, setting, source, and cost provenance attached, then export with a clearer record of how each asset was made.
