YouTube Official Artist Channels for independent artists: eligibility and request path
Check Official Artist Channel eligibility, prepare the right YouTube channel, and ask a distributor or music partner to submit the request.

The short answer
An independent artist can qualify for a YouTube Official Artist Channel by operating one music-focused artist channel, having at least one official release delivered to YouTube by a distributor or label, complying with YouTube policies, and meeting one of YouTube’s partner conditions. For the application, YouTube directs the artist to ask the label, distributor, or an eligible Music Service Partner to submit the request.
What an Official Artist Channel changes
A YouTube Official Artist Channel, usually shortened to OAC, brings an artist’s subscribers and content from different YouTube channels into one place. YouTube Help says it also provides artist tools including Analytics for Artists. The service can merge subscribers from a Topic channel, an existing artist channel, and a Vevo channel when one exists.
YouTube for Artists says an OAC is created from an existing YouTube channel and is identified by a music-note icon beside the channel name. That means the practical starting point is not a blank application for a new identity. It is a channel the artist already owns and operates, plus an official release that has already reached YouTube through music distribution. Artifex analysis: treat the OAC as channel organization, not as the release-delivery step.
Check the two layers of eligibility
YouTube’s current Help page sets three baseline requirements. You must own and operate one channel focused on one artist or band, have at least one official music release on YouTube delivered by a distributor or label, and comply with YouTube’s Community Guidelines, Terms of Service, and copyright policies.
You also need at least one partner connection. YouTube lists four routes: a YouTube Partner Manager, membership in the YouTube Partner Program, a label network that works with a Partner Manager, or music distributed by a partner in the YouTube Services Directory for Music Partners. Artifex analysis: for many independent artists, the final route is the one to verify first because it connects the release delivery and OAC request to a music partner rather than making YouTube Partner Program membership the only path.
- One owned-and-operated channel representing one artist or band.
- At least one official release delivered to YouTube by a distributor or label.
- A channel that complies with YouTube’s stated policies.
- At least one of YouTube’s four listed partner connections.
Ask the organization that can submit the request
YouTube tells artists to contact their label or distributor to request an Official Artist Channel. If you do not have one, the Help page directs you to a Music Service Partner that can request an OAC while delivering music content to YouTube. The YouTube Services Directory is the first-party place to identify those partners, but YouTube notes that the directory is voluntary and not comprehensive.
Artifex analysis: start with the distributor that delivered the release already visible on YouTube. Ask whether it handles OAC requests, what account or plan is required, and which channel and release links it needs. Do not assume that every company uses the same dashboard or review process. YouTube publishes the eligibility rules and submission route, while the distributor controls its own intake steps.
Prepare the channel before the distributor submits
YouTube recommends having at least one public video on the artist channel in addition to the official distributed release. Its Help page warns that a request for a channel with no public uploads may be rejected or require more verification. A public lyric video, performance, visualizer, or music video can make the owned channel visibly about the same artist named in the delivered release.
Artifex analysis: make the submission easy to inspect. Use the official artist name consistently, confirm that the channel represents only that artist or band, and collect the channel URL, Topic channel URL if one exists, release URL, release title, distributor account details, and any artist identifier the distributor requests. Check spelling before submission. Similar artist names and mismatched channel branding create ambiguity that a stronger application can remove.
- Confirm the public channel URL and artist name.
- Confirm that the official distributed release is live on YouTube.
- Upload at least one public artist video before requesting the OAC.
- Send the request through the distributor, label, or Music Service Partner.
Treat approval as channel organization, not a growth promise
An OAC can consolidate subscribers and music content and unlock artist-specific tools. Artifex analysis: treat that as channel infrastructure, not a promise of more views, streams, or subscribers. The useful outcome is a clearer official home that the artist can manage, measure, and keep consistent across releases.
Once the channel is organized, maintain it like a release asset. Keep the profile current, publish videos under the artist’s control, and check that releases are attached to the correct discography. Artifex Studio can prepare word-timed lyric videos from a finished song, but it never submits an OAC request or uploads to YouTube. The artist exports the asset, publishes it, and manages the partner relationship.
Connect the work

Your request needs a real artist channel
Give the channel a public video worth bringing into one home.
Bring one finished song to Studio, make a word-timed lyric video in your visual direction, and export the approved file. You keep control of the upload, channel, and distributor request.

Questions, answered.
- How many official releases do you need for a YouTube Official Artist Channel?
- YouTube’s current Help Center says at least one official music release on YouTube delivered and distributed by a music distributor or label. Check the live Help page before applying because eligibility rules can change.
- Can an independent artist request an Official Artist Channel directly from YouTube?
- YouTube’s published route is to contact a label or distributor. If you do not have one, YouTube says to contact a Music Service Partner that can request an OAC while delivering music content.
- Do you need to join the YouTube Partner Program first?
- Not in every case. YouTube lists Partner Program membership as one of four qualifying partner connections; distribution by a music partner in its Services Directory is another. The baseline channel, release, and policy requirements still apply.
- Does Artifex Studio apply for or publish to the Official Artist Channel?
- No. Studio creates exportable release assets from a finished song. The artist uploads to YouTube and asks the distributor, label, or Music Service Partner to handle the OAC request.
