Spotify AI credits, impersonation, and spam: what artists should do
A practical reading of Spotify AI protections for musicians using generated or assisted music and release visuals.

The short answer
Spotify announced three relevant AI measures in September 2025: vocal impersonation only with the impersonated artist authorization, a music spam filter that limits recommendation of spam uploaders or tracks, and industry-standard AI credits through DDEX. Artists should keep credits, consent, and release intent clear.
What Spotify announced
On 25 September 2025, Spotify described strengthened AI protections. The company said vocal impersonation should happen only with the authorization of the impersonated artist. It also described a music spam filter that tags and stops recommending spam uploaders or tracks, plus work on industry-standard AI credits via DDEX.
Spotify also said more than 75 million spammy tracks had been removed in the prior 12 months. That number is about enforcement volume, not a prediction about any individual artist.
The artist workflow
Treat AI use as release metadata, not a secret you reconstruct later. Keep who sang, who authorized a vocal likeness, what tools assisted the work, and what credits your distributor supports. If a release uses AI-generated or assisted parts, the public claim should match the documentation behind it.
Avoid spam patterns
The safest creative response is not to upload more indistinguishable tracks. It is to release with identity and intention: a named artist world, coherent visuals, dated facts, and asset choices that make the song easier to understand. Volume is not the same as momentum.
Use Studio for the layer after the song
Artifex Studio does not deliver music to Spotify. It helps musicians turn an existing track into artwork, lyric-led video, generated video, imagery, and social-ready copy while keeping approval and publishing control with the artist. That makes it useful around attribution because the visual and editorial release system can stay connected to the song facts.

Credits are part of the release system
Keep the story, assets, and attribution in one place.
Use Studio to connect your release dates, artist voice, visual assets, and provenance so the campaign can be exported with cleaner context around what was made and why.
